Broadleaf Plantain SEEDS – Untreated & Heirloom – Greater Plantain – Medicinal Perennial Herb – Plantago major

Broadleaf Plantain is an edible perennial plant that has been used in the kitchen and in traditional medicine since ancient times. The young soft leaves and small greenish flowers are edible raw, and cooked. We like them in salads, stir-fries, and soups. The taste is similar to spinach. The seeds are nice when roasted. The plant grows in a wide range of soil and everywhere in Australia. The entire plant can be dehydrated and used for tea, infusions, tinctures, and infused oils. “Some of its traditional properties including wound healing, antipyretic, antitussive, anti-infective, anti-hemorrhagic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, laxative, astringent and hemostatic have been confirmed in recent researches (Najafian et.al. 2018)”

I sell plants, too.

The seeds come from my food forest at Permaculture Haven in SEQLD. I sell plants, too.

Planting and growing tips:

  1. Start in a pot or tray to ensure success. Keep moist, not wet, until the seeds sprout.
  2. Replant into individual pots or to the garden when the seedlings have 2-3 leaves.
  3. Plantain is an easy-to-grow plant, that loves full sun, semi-shade, and shade.
  4. It will reseed happily if you let it go to seeds.
  5. The better the soil, the quicker and better it will grow.
  6. It doesn’t like to sit in water so a well-drained position is best.

Additional notes:

  • The price is for 20 seeds, harvested from the plants that happily grow in my permaculture food forest in Pacific Haven QLD Australia. Sending within Australia only, not to NORFOLK ISLAND, NT, SA, TAS, or WA. Pick up by appointment only.
  • Most of our nursery plants grow in a semi-shade. Introducing them to the sun slowly before replanting to their permanent position will promote healthy growth.
  • Do your research before trying any new foods. Please also note our disclaimer in the footer of this page.
